Continuous aluminum price decline has driven more Chinese aluminum smelters into the red.
SHANGHAI, Jun. 12 (SMM) – Continuous aluminum price decline has driven more Chinese aluminum smelters into the red. Will loss-making smelters resort to production cuts or even halts?

Many smelters have shown no intention of cutting output in the near term, and are waiting to see whether aluminum prices will turn around, SMM has learned.

Given current aluminum prices of 12,700 yuan ($2,046) per tonne, about 35% of the country’s operational aluminum capacity is operating in the red, SMM statistics found.
